Where I Like to Read

       Where I Like to Read...
                          By: Julie Raftelis
If you ask anyone who knows me, even former students, where my favorite place to read is they will unequivocally answer the BEACH.  I spend my summer days reading in the sun at the beach.  Whether it is books about the newest research in teaching or a piece of historical fiction I can’t put down, a book always accompanies me to the beach.  There is nothing I enjoy more than the warm sunshine bouncing off the crisp pages while the salty air rustles the book jacket.

had their snacks at Old Orchard Beach in Maine.

My children have always indulged my love of reading at the beach as long as I balanced reading with some good old-fashioned sandcastle making and boogie boarding.  When reading at the beach, the ideas funnel into my brain more clearly.  I am able to relax and let the words pour into my thoughts.  It’s relaxing and engaging all in one!   Now, this is not to say that I don’t enjoy reading in other spots.  It would be really hard to curl up with a good book in the middle of the winter on my sand chair at Long Beach.  I can and do read just about anywhere I can!  But, the beach will forever be my favorite place to enjoy a good book.  Where is your favorite place to read?

  1. Love those beach days with books:)) In the winter, it is in a cozy bed before bedtime where I can focus on my stories:))
    Hoping for warmer weather soon!

  2. I love, love, love to read at the beach! Now that my kids are older, I have more opportunities to do that. I also agree with Mrs. Zerilli- nothing beats a cozy Sunday morning, drinking a huge cup of hazelnut coffee, in my comfy bed reading a book!

  3. My favorite place to read is in bed before I go to sleep if I can stay up and no one will interrupt me.I love it when I get so involved in a book I can't put it down. I love how books can completely absorb you and the worries of the day dissolve as you turn the pages. I love it when you can feel your heart beating faster if something exciting is happening, or it makes you sob and tears at your heart. or you learn valuable things about yourself or other people in your life. Its almost as good as painting for me. The BOOK IS Always BETTER than the movie.Unfortunately being an artist-I often judge the book by the cover which is silly,I know.
