And Then Comes Summer...Reading!

Last week's Summer Reading Book Fair was a great success!
Students in all grades left with great ideas about great summer reads. More information about the RES Summer Reading program will go home next week. Check out the links below for more information about the importance of summer reading and other summer reading lists.

"The research is clear that children who don't read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect." Find activities, articles and additional resources for preventing "summer slide" at Reading Rockets.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) just released the 2017 ALSC Summer Reading Lists. The books on this list come highly recommended by kid readers from all over the country and may also be available in ebook, audio book, braille, and large print formats. Four Summer Reading lists are available for Birth to PreschoolKindergarten - 23rd - 5th6th-8th.

Check out Horn Book's Family Reading Blog, "a place devoted to offering children's book recommendations and advice about the whats and whens and whos and hows of sharing books in the home."  The Summer Reading list was just released.
